Permanent Makeup Information Packet

Thank you so much for trusting me with your beautiful face! Prior to booking an appointment, I require that all a10 Studio clients read and review the information below in full to ensure they are properly informed about the payment and cancellation policies, consent and client record forms, frequently asked questions, and more. It’s a lot of information, but it’s very important that each client understands everything prior to booking an appointment. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns about anything!

How do I book an appointment?

Once you have reviewed the information in this packet, ask any questions you have via email, and then you will choose your appointment date through online booking. To book an appointment, visit the website www.a10studiocinci.com and click on the booking tab. That will allow you to view all available appointments as well as pay your booking deposit to secure your appointment without delay. Appointments will not be booked via social media. Remember to bring your photo ID to your appointment. Also, it’s very important to book your touch up appointment as soon as availability opens for the appropriate timeframe! This is to ensure that you get a date and time that works for you before our schedule books up. The touch-up appointment should be 8-12 weeks after your initial appointment. Complimentary touchups must be scheduled to fall within 12 weeks from your initial appointment. You may not book an appointment without prior approval if you have ever had permanent makeup before, no matter how long ago it was or how faded it looks to you. I cannot cover most old microblading/eyebrow tattoos that I see, and I need to ensure you have the results you deserve. To obtain approval please email clear photos to Amanda@a10browstudio.com

Microblading/Tattooing over Prior Permanent Makeup

By approval only. I typically cannot work over other artists' work. Please email me to discuss BEFORE booking. If you have ever had permanent makeup on your brows before, you must let us know prior to booking so we can make sure it can be covered. This is true no matter how light they look to you, or how long it's been since they were done. Failure to do so may result in disappointment and loss of deposit if you arrive to your appointment without prior approval. A paid consultation may be required for approval. Cost of consultation may be applied to your appointment if it is determined that the previous permanent makeup can be worked over/covered/corrected.

Payment Policy

a10 Studio accepts all major credit cards, debit cards, Venmo, and cash. No checks or money orders.
All permanent makeup appointments require a non-refundable $100.00 booking fee to book. This is taken care of during the booking process and done via credit or debit.
This booking fee goes toward your total investment and holds your spot on the calendar.  Please book your appointment via the booking link on the site. No booking will take place via social media/DM’s. After selecting a date and time, you will be prompted to pay your deposit by debit or credit card. Your appointment is not booked until you have paid your deposit. The remaining balance is due at your appointment. Please review our cancellation policy below prior to booking.

Cancellation Policy

Please read this policy before booking any appointments at a10 Studio to make sure you fully understand. The reason for this policy is that while I am ever so grateful for my wonderful clients, timely and efficient service is necessary for me to provide outstanding customer service. If you fail to comply with these policies I am unable to service everyone in a fair and efficient way. Customer satisfaction is my highest priority, and these policies exist to give all clients the absolute best experience possible.  I am so thankful for your business and welcome any inquiries about this policy!

For all permanent makeup appointments, a 48 hour notice is required to cancel or reschedule your appointment. I just ask that you please call and let me know, (voice mail if necessary) or text (no social media cancellations) at least 48 hours prior to your appointment time to cancel or reschedule. Should you fail to cancel or reschedule your appointment at least 48 hours before your appointment, you will forfeit your booking deposit. Should you wish to reschedule your appointment outside of the timeframe of this policy, you definitely can! You will have to pay another non-refundable deposit and/or may be required to pay in full prior to booking another date.

Should you cancel or reschedule your appointment within 12 hours of your appointment, or no call/no show, you will not only forfeit your booking deposit but also will be required to pay the full balance of your missed appointment cost before you can re-book with me. Once you pay the full cost of your original missed appointment, another deposit and/or the full balance must be paid which will go toward the new appointment cost to book another appointment. As usual, the remaining balance of the new appointment cost is due at the time of the new appointment.

Should you cancel or reschedule your free 8-12 week touch up appointment within 48 hours, or no call/no show for your appointment, you will be required to pay for your touch-up. Touch-up prices are listed in the pricing menu.

All appointments must be scheduled/take place within 120 days from original date of deposit. If you fail to complete your appointment within that timeframe you will forfeit your booking deposit. In such instance, an additional non-refundable deposit will be required and/or you will be required to pay in full to book a new appointment.

If you are over 15 minutes late to any appointment, you will be asked to reschedule, and the same policies above will apply. This is because all clients receive thorough consultations and detailed, precise work. As a result, I will not rush your appointment or others. Therefore, if you are more than 15 minutes late to your appointment you will forfeit your deposit and be required to pay for the balance of your appointment before you can re-book.

There will be no exceptions to this policy. By booking your appointment with a10 Studio, you acknowledge that you have read, understand, and agree to the Cancellation and Booking Policies.

Who is a good candidate?

The simple answer is, anyone that wants to have full, beautiful brows all day, every day! That would include busy parents or business people who don’t have much time to apply brow make up, active people who don’t want to worry about sweating off makeup while working out or swimming, or any person who struggles with getting that perfect shape that the celebrities and YouTube makeup artists always seem to have. Other clients include those suffering from scarring, Trichotillomania, Alopecia and Cancer, or other diseases and disorders that have led to natural hair loss. Please review the services page to determine which service is best suited for your skin type + brow goals. Let a10 Studio do all of the work for you!

What makes a non-candidate?

Taking blood thinners
Skin irritations near the area such as sunburn or Psoriasis
Taking sun sensitizing medications (including but not limited to Retinol/ Retin-A / vitamin A) – these need to be stopped at least 2 weeks before the appointment)
Botox within last 2 weeks
Accutane within last year
History of keloid scarring
Auto-immune deficiencies
People suffering from severe acne
Pregnant women
Chemotherapy patients will need to check with their physician and provide a doctor's note.
People with conditions that cause them to bleed very easily (this impacts results). People with prior permanent makeup may not be good candidates for Mircoblading. This is determined by pre-approval/consultation.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Are you certified and licensed to operate?

Yes! A10 Studio is a licensed tattoo studio and I am a certified cosmetic tattoo artist and educator. The studio and staff are insured. All artists completed a hands-on apprenticeship and received certification from one or more permanent makeup artists and training academies. All artists have received extensive training and certification in Blood Borne Pathogens as deemed necessary for tattoo artists by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration. It’s crucial that you choose not only a certified permanent makeup artist, but also a licensed one to ensure your health is protected!

Do I need to shave or wax my brow hair?

No! We will shape your eyebrows as needed (by shaving or tweezing) and choose a color pigment that blends seamlessly with your natural brows. If you have a lot of brow hair it may be useful to have your brows waxed at least a week before your appointment – but that is optional.

How is Microblading/Cosmetic Tattooing different than a traditional eyebrow tattoo?

The most common type of traditional eyebrow tattoos involves the use of a lot of pigment and a block style brow, which leaves the client with a dark outlined eyebrow and no depth. These often fade to really unflattering colors. a10 Studio services leave the client with natural looking eyebrows that look real! Careful selection of pigment is chosen to give depth and shape so that the natural brow hairs and permanent makeup blend seamlessly.

Note that everything I do looks natural, but all permanent makeup is still a tattoo. There are just dozens of techniques.

Does it hurt?

Everyone is different and pain tolerance varies by client. Most clients describe the pain level as minimal and find tweezing and threading more uncomfortable. At a10 Studio, I use two types of the best topical lidocaine cream available to minimize discomfort. That being said, this is a still a tattoo. You will typically feel some discomfort. Based on experience, I would describe the feeling as a slight burning, astringent like sensation. Very tolerable and worth it!

How long does it take?

The process takes approximately two to three hours from the moment you walk in the door to completion of your beautiful new brows or lip blush. The first hour or so is spent designing your new brows/lips and numbing the area. There is no downtime! Occasionally, some clients will have some slight redness and swelling around the area which is very normal and will subside within a couple of hours. Most clients go on about their normal day when they leave their appointment.

What is the healing process?

Some swelling and tenderness after the procedure is normal and may last a day or so, depending on the client. Your new cosmetic tattoo will appear DARKER, WIDER, AND SHARPER than the way it will heal. This is especially true for days 2-5. This is harder for some clients than others. Clients who rarely wear makeup may find that they don't like how their brows/lips look on these days because they are too intense. That's normal! The pigment is sitting on top of the skin and has not yet settled into your face. As your skin heals over the tattoo, your cosmetic tattoo with lighten and soften. This process takes about 10-14 days or so, on average. It’s important to follow all after care instructions and to attend the required follow up appointment to make the finishing touches to your new brows/lips! Your healing is only about 50% in my control. Once you leave it's up to you to be diligent about following the instructions you're given to get the best result! And no matter how great they look, it's important to come for your touch up appointment to get the final result.

How long does it last?

This will vary by client. If aftercare instructions are followed diligently, your new brows/lip blush will last approximately 12-24 months on average before they're mostly faded; 18 months is average. For some people, their cosmetic tattoo will last even longer, and some less. Certain factors such as sun exposure and tanning beds, getting chemical peels, oily skin type, bleeding, etc., will affect whether your brows/lips will last on the higher or lower end of the expected 12-18 months. I recommend, on average, one touch up every 18+ months to keep things fresh. Coming more often increases the risk for scar tissue or causing your cosmetic tattoo to look unnatural.

Will it look natural?

Absolutely! The techniques used at a10 Brow Studio create realistic, simulated hair strokes and/or powder fill that looks just like a real eyebrow! Your brows can be as big and bold or as soft and subtle as you like! This also applies to lip blush.

Are there some clients who cannot retain the pigment?

Yes this does happen. Some people have highly effective immune systems that reject the pigment, and some just have highly effect skin healing. It's very rare, but it's important that all clients understand this is a possibility and in most cases, there is no way for us to know if this will take place prior to the work being done. Occasionally, we will recommend a third appointment to further touch the brows/lips up if the client is retaining some pigment after the first touch up, however anything beyond that would likely be too much for the skin and the client would likely not be a candidate for further permanent makeup.

What if my brows/lips are fading faster than I’d like?

We will revisit aftercare and lifestyle to make sure that is not the issue. If not, it’s likely that you need to go darker and/or fuller at your touch up, and/or you are ready for a more full coverage, longer-lasting technique.

PRE + POST CARE

PRE CARE

-Avoid alcohol, caffeine, ibuprofen, aspirin, or any medication that thins your blood at least 24 hours prior to your appointment.

-Avoid chemical peels, microdermabrasion, or facials 4 weeks prior to your appointment.

-Botox and fillers must be done 4 weeks prior to your appointment and no sooner than 4 weeks post procedure as these can alter the position of your brows.

-You may tint your brows up to 5 days prior to your appointment.

-You may choose to leave your natural hairs and the artist will remove any unwanted/stray hairs after the design process.

-Avoid tanning 2 weeks prior to your appointment. If you arrive with a sunburn, your deposit will be forfeited and you will need to reschedule.

-Discontinue use of any anti-acne or anti-aging skincare (vitamin A, Retinol, etc.) at least 2 weeks prior to your appointment.

-Discontinue vitamin E and fish oil at least 1 week prior to your appointment.

-Read all forms provided to you prior to and during your appointment. Do not hesitate to ask questions.

-Inform your artist of any allergies, medical conditions, prior permanent makeup, and prescriptions prior to your appointment.

POST CARE

-Immediately following your procedure and up to 3 days after, your brows/lips will appear to be darker and more sharp than your final outcome.

-Swelling and redness is typically minimal and should disappear within 24-48 hours.

-Blot your brows with a clean tissue every 5-10 minutes post procedure to absorb excess lymph fluid. Continue until all oozing has stopped.

-Wash your hands thoroughly before touching your brows/lips.

-Gently wash & rinse the tattooed area with lukewarm water + antibacterial soap (bubbles only) 1-2 times a day. Rinse with minimal water and blot with a clean paper towel.

-In the event of scabbing, a tiny amount of aquaphor may be applied to the brows. Do not suffocate the brows! Check with your artist prior to using any ointment on your brow area. Lips must remain moisturized with the provided aftercare.

-Avoid makeup and skincare products of any kind on the brows/lips for at least 2 weeks and until all flaking has stopped.

-Avoid swimming, hot tubs, saunas, steamy showers, excessive sweating, etc. for at least 2 weeks and until all flaking has stopped.

-Keep your face away from the shower head when showering.

-Avoid sleeping on your stomach or sides while healing.

-Do not scratch or pick your brows/lips as this can cause scarring, blurring, color loss, or infection. Doing so will compromise the outcome of your new brows/lips. In the case of itching during healing, pat them!

-Avoid the sun by wearing a hat. Sunscreen must not be applied until the healing process is complete.

ONCE HEALED

-The tattooed area must be kept free of glycolic acid, Retin A, chemical peels and exfoliating products as use of these may lighten the pigment.

-Sunscreen must be worn to avoid excess fading or discoloration of the pigment.

-Laser procedures such as hair removal or resurfacing may alter the pigment. Please inform your technician of your microbladed brows prior to any laser procedure.
